Arizona is short on rain this year so far but there are some roadside poppies and a report of wildflowers around Lake Mohave. Should have some eye's on in a few weeks. A few poppies that froze last week

Some bugs from this month. #1 Tarantula Hawk, #2 Honey Bee in a sea of Saguaro Blooms, #3 Black Bee on a Thistle flower, #4 Leopard fly on a Ironwood bloom, #5 Butterfly.
6/14/2010 Strawberry Crater just north of Sunset Volcanic Crater National Monument has started it's Apache Plume Bloom, so the 3-4' bushes are covered in white blooms with the soon to appear reddish plumes in the next few weeks. Also the ground is dotted with the scarlet Arizona Gilia and rare Newberry's twinpod (not pictured) That only grows on these cinder cones here in Arizona.
6/14/2010 Carpets of Rocky Mountain Iris are just past peak now south of Mormon Lake. Allot are white this year and are thicker than anytime I have seen them in the past 30 years.
6/12/2010 At 7000 feet on the east side of the San Francisco Peaks grow large globes of Claret Cup Cactus. They grow on a volcanic cliff in one small valley, this is one of the smaller globes, they get to about 6 foot wide unfortunately none of them were in bloom this week. Just past peak bloom. Looks like this one had about 40 blooms last week.
Psycho Saguaro's. These saguaros about 10 in a shallow canyon near Ragged Top Mountain. I have no Idea why they all did this but there is some mining nearby.
This week in Ironwood National Monument. Very erratic bloom in the monument this year but the saguaros are peaking
